Ever felt invisible at dinner?


Greetings Reader,

Today, I want to share a story.

A few weeks ago, I took myself on a solo dinner date to Wahaca. I walked in off the street, ready to relax, eat good food and enjoy a bit of time to myself. But the experience I had? Mate!

The first words out of the host’s mouth weren’t “Welcome” - they were “Just so you know, the kitchen closes in five minutes. You’ll need to order quickly!”

Then she walked off.

Erm… not exactly a vibe. And definitely not welcoming.

Still, I decided to stay because I was hungry and already had an idea of what I wanted to eat.

However, I waited almost 15 minutes to get a menu (and yes, I had to ask). Three different staff members passed me by without so much as a glance. It was awkward, it was clunky, and honestly? I felt invisible.

Eventually, I flagged down the host. They came back and took my order (bless), but it wasn’t their job and the experience left a sour taste - which had nothing to do with the tacos.

And here’s the thing: in business, that same kind of clunky welcome can turn a potential client off before you even realise they were interested.

It’s rarely intentional. It’s usually a result of too much on your plate, manual onboarding, messy emails, missing processes, or just not having the space to keep up with it all.

But the impression? Negative, and very real.

It’s still impactful - but obviously not in the way you want it to be.

And if you’re anything like the brilliant solo service providers I work with, I know it’s not a reflection of the care you have for your people.

Or, on a par with what you actually deliver.

I’m here to share that there is another way.
